Black Pen
4x9
Meryl Streep. Art Nouveau. Burn it. So far, this has been my least favorite project in this class. I think the style that Muncha (An art nouveau artist) does is beautiful, but it is just not something that I enjoy doing. Yes, I learned a lot, but I really have no desire to do it again...that aside, I had a lot of fun working with the pen. It is much more challenging than the pencil because once you mess up, there is no going back...which I also learned. I did darken the lines around Meryl Streep and the flower ring after taking this picture to try to make her pop out more and distract the eye from the GIANT BLACK SWIRL that looked so much better not filled in (remember that part about not being able to go back???) I really liked doing the flower ring that is around the figure. The flowers were the funnest part to draw and design an my favorite part of the whole piece. With Art Nouveau-everything in the picture has a meaning (it is very symbolic art work) So here is the meaning behind the symbols in the piece. 1. Meryl Streep is looking away from the Hollywood scene because she isn't like all of the other actors who tend to pull stunts just to get more attention, she's better than that. 2. Drama masks: she does theater as well as movies, but she focuses more on portraying a character perfectly than she does anything else. 3. Flowers (Cala Lilies): they mean beauty. I think she is a very beautiful woman, and she is also looking away from those as well because she doesn't focus all of her attention on beauty. 4. The Celtic Symbol (at the top and bottom of the frame) means family. She is a family devoted person and they are her number one priority. The End.
